MESSAGE:
No character in the Bible was recorded to be a better counsellor than Ahithophel. But when he became a counsellor to Absalom, David’s rebellious son, David prayed that his counsel be turned into foolishness (2 Samuel 15:31) and God answered. Beloved, human wisdom can never be compared with the wisdom of God. The greatest wise man on earth is but a fool when his wisdom is placed side by side with the wisdom of God. This is another reason you need to make God your counsellor.
Any time you need counsel, turn to the Holy Spirit for guidance. Humans have limited knowledge, so even when they genuinely advice you, their advice will be limited to their knowledge and the present because they can’t see into the future. Moreover, God has promised that He will destroy the wisdom of the wise when they come contrary to His plans (1 Corinthians 1:19). Who is your counsellor? Your counsellor can lead you astray intentionally or unintentionally but the Holy Spirit will never lead you astray, rather, He’ll lead you in the way that you should go.
KEY POINT:
Wouldn’t you rather have the Holy Spirit as your counsellor?
Hymn 15: O spread the tidings ’round
O spread the tidings ’round,
Wherever man is found,
Wherever human hearts and
Human woes abound.
Let every Christian tongue
Proclaim the joyful sound:
The Comforter has come!
Chorus:
The Comforter has come!
The Comforter has come!
The Holy Ghost from heav’n,
The Father’s Promise giv’n,
O spread the tidings ’round,
Wherever man is found:
The Comforter has come!
The long, long night is past;
The morning breaks at last;
And hushed the dreadful wail
And fury of the blast,
As o’er the golden hills
The day advances fast!
The Comforter has come!
Lo, the great Kings of Kings,
With healing in His wings,
To every captive soul a full
Deliv’rance brings;
And thro’ the vacant cells
The song of triumph rings;
The Comforter has come!
O boundless love divine!
How shall this tongue of mine
To wond’ring mortals tell
The matchless grace divine-
That I, a child of hell,
Should in His image shine?
The Comforter has come!
