Topic: You Can Be Perfect

Memorise: Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:48

Read: Matthew 5:38-48

38 You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’

39 But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

40 And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.

41 If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.

42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

43 ”You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’

44 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?

47 And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?

48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Bible In One Year: Exodus 13-15; Matthew 19:1-15

MESSAGE:

Our memory verse for today is one of the instructions given by our Lord Jesus Christ, yet considered to be impossible by many Christians. It is generally believed that no one is perfect and no one can be. However, when God says be perfect, He knows that it is possible and He expects us to be. I have always told my children that perfection is possible and that it is a matter of personal conviction.

Perfection can be based on three aspects according to the Bible. They are: physical, moral and spiritual. Physical perfection is based on outward healthy appearance: cleanliness and living. Moral perfection refers to acting in the right manner at all times while spiritual perfection refers to holiness and sanctification. If a fellow is lacking in one aspect, he is not perfect. To become perfect, you need to first be born again and become sanctified. You also need to know the difference between good and bad. This knowledge can only be gotten from the word of God.

Key Point:

Father, please grant me the grace to be perfect in every ramifications

Hymn 20: When We Walk With The Lord

1 we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear,
Not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss,
Not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

But we never can prove
The delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows,
For the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do,
Where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
