TOPIC: A Powerful Weapon

MEMORISE: Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21

READ: James 3:6-9

  1. And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
  2. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
  3. But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
  4. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Samuel 13-14, Luke 20:1-47

MESSAGE:
In our Bible reading for today, the tongue is compared with fire. Of course, there are a lot of good things one can do with fire such as cooking, burning refuse, creating warmth especially during cold weather et cetera. However, if fire is not used properly, it can destroy things. This also applies to our tongue. If you don’t use your tongue properly, it can even lead to death according to our memory verse. There is power in your tongue and you need to know how to use it. So, rather than use the power in your mouth to say negative things about people or curse, use it to your advantage. When in a difficult situation, speak positively. The Bible says in Romans 4:17b:

“even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.”

Call forth the things you want in your life, academics and career with the power in your tongue today.

ACTION POINT: Use your tongue to your advantage.

HYMN: I AM THINE O LORD

I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.

CHORUS
Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!

There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
