TOPIC: Dominion I

MEMORISE: Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: – Psalm 8:6

READ: Genesis 1:26-28 (KJV)

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Ruth 1 Samuel 5-8

MESSAGE:
To the human race, dominion should be a natural phenomenon because it was bestowed upon us at creation. Our memory verse for today attests to this truth. In other words, one can gain dominion by creation. For example, a buffalo is conceived the same way a lion is conceived. However, dominion is bestowed upon the lion over the buffalo. When David considered the privileged position God placed man in, he could not help asking, “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him?” (Psalm 8:4). The question here is, “What should man do to appreciate the One who bestowed this dominion upon him?” The answer is not far-fetched; the Bible says:

Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, o my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” – Psalm 103:1-2

Beloved, you should not struggle to have dominion because it has been given to us at creation. Another question then is, “Is this a reality in the life of everyone?” The answer is simply “No” and this is because man sold his dominion for a taste of the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3:1-7). This now leads us to the necessity of redemption. It is redemption that can restore this dominion.

I remember how I was running helter-skelter, away from wicked people who wanted to use me as their breakfast. I kept on running and suffering until I met Jesus Christ and accepted Him as my personal Lord and Saviour. When a man is redeemed from sin, he is redeemed completely from all other calamities that had dominated him hitherto. He is born again and re-created into the image of God in which he was originally created. This is why Jesus Christ said we must be born again (John 3:3). The Bible also says that whoever is born of God (John 1:12) overcomes the world through faith in the Son of the Living God (1 John 5:4-5). Beloved, you have dominion by virtue of your being a new creature in Jesus Christ.

Claim, receive and exercise your dominion.

KEY POINT:

To access dominion, you must surrender your life to Jesus Christ.

HYMN 25: To God Be The Glory, Great Things He Hath Done

  1. To God be the glory
    Great things He has done
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin
And opened the life-gate that all may go yes

Chorus:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Let the earth hear His voice
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Let the people rejoice
Come to the Father
Through Jesus the Son
Give Him the glory
Great things He has done
Oh yes

  1. O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood
To every believer the promise of God
The vilest offender who truly believes
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives
  2. Great things He has taught us, great things He has done
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our worship, when Jesus we see
