Open Heavens for Teens Saturday 12 October 2019 Daily Devotional was written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

Topic: What’s Inside Will Show

Memorise: “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” – Matthew 12:34

Read: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Bible In One Year: Isaiah 48-49, Colossians 4

MESSAGE:

These days, someone dresses provocatively, and when you correct them, they say “my dressing does not matter, what matters is if my heart is right with God”. When a supposed child of God makes hairstyles that gangsters wear, uses a foul languages and says “Oh, all that you are seeing outside does not matter, what matters is my heart”, there is fire on the mountain.

A long time ago, I invited teachers from abroad to teach a class in the RCCG Bible College, these teachers came and taught my student that God only cares about the heart and not what we do with our body. The next time I met the students, they confronted me, saying that I had been too hard on them, so God gave me wisdom on how to correct the misconceptions. I bought two unpeeled oranges, one was yellow and the other green. I then asked the students, “Which one of these oranges is ripe?” They all pointed at the yellow one, so I asked, “how do you know?”. They all said, it was obvious from the outside. I said, “but I thought you could not tell what was inside by looking on the outside”. They were quiet. Beloved, your body, not your heart, is God’s temple. He cares about your body too.

Key Point: A bad tree cannot bring forth good fruits. Who you are inside reflects outside no matter how you try to hide it.

Hymn 7: I am Thine 0 Lord, I have heard Thy voice,

1 I am Thine 0 Lord, I have heard Thy voice,

And it told Thy love to me;

But I long to rise in the arms of faith

And be closer drawn to Thee.

Chorus:

Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord

To the cross where Thou hast died;

Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,

To Thy precious, bleeding side.

2 Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,

By the pow’r of grace divine;

Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,

And my will be lost in Thine.

3 Oh, the pure delight of a single hour

That before Thy throne I spend,

When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God

I commune as friend with friend!

4 There are depths of love that I cannot know

Till I cross the narrow sea;

There are heights of joy that I may not reach

Till I rest in peace with Thee.
