Open Heavens for Teens Wednesday 6 March 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

Topic: The Log in Your Eye

Memorise: “Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam of thine own eye: then thou shalt see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” – Matthew 7:5

Read: Matthew 7:1-5

1.Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2.For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3.And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

4.Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

5.Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

Bible In One Year: Deuteronomy 1-2, Mark 11:1-19

MESSAGE:

It is hypocrisy to ask someone to do something that you yourself are not doing. Before you correct someone, check that you are not also doing the same thing that you are asking the person to stop. Many at times, people are quick to correct others or even report them to a higher authority, whereas they are themselves guilty of what they are making a fuss about. This kind of attitude is very much to your detriment because when you correct or report someone for doing something bad, you are helping them to change and become better, but if you neglect your own shortcomings, then you will only be getting worse. Also, because you have been the one reporting people, you will start looking for ways to hide your wrong as it will be shameful to also be caught doing the same thing. The more you hide it, the more it grows and causes more damage, so the best thing to do is just to correct yourself and at least, work on changing first before you go around correcting other people.

“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper”

Action Point: Ask three godly people today what they you should change about yourself and start working on changing those things.

Hymn 2: When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,

1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,

What a glory He sheds on our way!

While we do His good will,

He abides with us still,

And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:

Trust and obey, for theres no other way

To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,

But His smile quickly drives it away;

Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,

Can abide while we trust and obey.

3. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,

But our toil He doth richly repay;

Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,

But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4. But we never can prove the delights of His love

Until all on the altar we lay;

For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,

Are for them who will trust and obey.

5. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,

Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;

What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;

Never fear, only trust and obey.
