Topic: Do You Know God? II

Memorise: Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:29

Read: Acts 2:41-47

41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.

44 All the believers were together and had everything in common.

45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.

46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,

47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Bible In One Year: Exodus 4-6; Matthew 16

MESSAGE:

Going to church or participating in church activities is not the same as knowing God. In fact no matter how you give offerings or pay tithes, if your life is not in accordance with the word of God, your giving will not be acceptable to God.

God wants us to know Him. This can only happen when we have an intimate relationship with Him. Intimacy with God will lead to humility, selflessness, obedience to God and service to humanity. When you have an intimate relationship with God, you will know what He wants and what He hates. You will also live like Jesus. 1 John 2:6 says

“He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.”

You cannot say that you know God, yet, have to be compelled to go for Church services or participate in Church activities. When you know God, you will love Him: the love will motivate you to serve Him and thirst for more for Him.

Key Point:

When you know God, others will see Him in you.

Hymn 9: I Am Thine O Lord

I am Thine O Lord
I have heard Thy voice
And it told Thy love to me
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.

Chorus:
Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord
By the pow’r of grace divine
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope
And my will be lost in Thine.

Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend.

There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
