Topic: Who Is Your Role Model?

Memorise: Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1

Read: Philippians 3:14-19

14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.

18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

Bible In One Year: Genesis 38-40; Matthew 12:22-50

MESSAGE:

Last year, there was a worldly musician who suddenly gained popularity and had followers who tagged themselves ‘mallians’. These set of people saw their leader be as a role model that should be followed. It was so unfortunate that some children of God also followed. My child, anyone who is not following Christ is not worthy of your followership. Apostle Paul encountered Jesus on his way to Damascus to crucify the followers of Jesus and afterwards, he didn’t turn back. He wanted to be like Jesus in every aspect. He said in Philippians 3:10:

“That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death.”

No wonder he was able to boldly ask people to follow him. If your role model is not pointing you to Christ then, you are on the wrong path. You had better look for another.

Key Point:

Show me your role model and I will tell you who are.

Hymn 18: What A Friend We Have In Jesus

What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a Friend so faithful?
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer!

Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield You;
You wilt find a solace there.
