Open Heavens for Teens Sunday 22 December 2019 Daily Devotional was written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

Topic: Sword Of The Spirit

MEMORISE: “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” – Ephesians 6:17

READ: Ephesians 6:11-12,

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Zechariah 13-14; Revelation 21

MESSAGE:

On the battlefield, when an enemy approaches a soldier, the soldier draws his sword to fight the enemy. Since we are not wrestling against flesh and blood, we cannot draw any physical sword to fight the enemy, but we can draw the sword of the spirit which is the word of God.

When the devil attacks your health or that of your loved ones, use the word of God that says by His stripes you were healed to defeat that sickness. When he attacks you with blankness in the exam hall, defeat him by saying you are the head and you’d never be beneath. Whatever the problem or battle you are facing, make use of the sword that can strike out anything and anyone. Cling to the sword (word of God) and you’d see how things would to go well with you and your loved ones.

ACTION POINT: Start making use of your sword from now.

Hymn 5: Onward, Christian soldiers

1 Onward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!
Christ, the Royal Master,
Leads against the foe;
Forward into battle,
See His banners go!

Chorus
Onward, Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!

2 At the Sign of triumph
Satan’s host doth flee;
On, then, Christian soldiers,
On to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver
At the shout of praise;
Brothers, lift your voices,
Loud your anthems raise!

3 Like a mighty army
Moves the Church of God;
Brothers, we are treading
Where the saints have trod;
We are not divided;
All one body we
One in hope and doctrine,
One in charity.

4 Onward, then, ye people,
Join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices
In the triumph song;
Glory, praise and honour,
Unto Christ the King;
This, through countless ages
Men and angels sing.
