Topic Seek to Understand
Memorise: “Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom; and with all thy getting get understanding.” – Proverbs 4:7
Read: Proverbs 4:5-9
5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.
Bible In One Year: Judges 1-2, Luke 7:1-30
MESSAGE:
These days, teenagers are always in a hurry, and in your hurry, you never seem to get the depths of the things happening around you. In school the aim of most of you is just to pass your exams, it never really matters if you understand what is being taught; you just want to get to the next class. This is a very wrong attitude. There is a reason why your parents work hard to send you to school and its your duty to work hard to not only graduate from that school, but also learn all you can from the school.
You have to understand that what you just hear will have no impact on you. What you cram can bring you little, but what you learn and understand can change your life for the better. Many people only hear or cram what the teacher/lecturer says, that’s why these days, we have so called mechanical engineers who cannot repair even a bicycle. If you claim to have heard an information and you don’t understand it enough to put it to use, then you are as good as not hearing it. Besides, what you know is for your own good; the knowledge you acquire can never be taken from you, so why not take the time to actually understand?
Prayer Point:If you don’t understand what you are taught, ask questions until you understand.
Hymn 6: Our God, our help in ages past
- Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast, - And our eternal home:
Under the shadow of your throne
Your saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is your arm alone, - And our defense is sure
Before the hills in order stood
Or earth received its frame,
From everlasting you are God, - To endless years the same.
A thousand ages in your sight
Are like an evening gone
Short as the watch that ends the night - Before the rising sun.
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Soon bears us all away;
We fly forgotten, as a dream - Does at the opening day.
Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Still be our guard while troubles last,
And our eternal home.
