Open Heavens for Teens Sunday 26 January 2020 Daily Devotional was written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

Topic: Laziness

MEMORISE: “As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.” – Proverbs 26:14

READ: Proverbs 6:6-11

6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Exodus 11-12; Matthew 18:21-35

MESSAGE:

When I see a lazy teenager, I wonder if he is truly a Christian because anyone who is a true Christian is a hard worker. In Mark 4:37-38, He worked so hard and was so tired that even when there was a storm he was fast asleep. He said in John 5:17:

“But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.”

If your Father is a hard worker and you are a lazy fellow, then we need to truly check if He is truly your Father.

It is laziness to leave your assignment undone until the morning you are expected to submit it. It is laziness to leave the dishes in the kitchen until your mom forces you to wash them. It is a lazy fellow whose room will be very dirty and disorganized all the time. It is laziness when you cannot read at least a chapter of the Bible daily. One thing that laziness does to a Christian is that it makes him or her misrepresent God. A lazy fellow will always fail exams and cannot be a role model for others to follow. Stop misrepresenting God.

Key Point: A true child of God cannot be lazy.

Hymn 3: When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word

1 When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3 Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4 But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5 Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
