MEMORISE: Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3

READ: Psalms 42:1-2

1 (To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah.) As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Genesis 9-11; Matthew 4

MESSAGE:

A poor fellow is always needy, even when he wants fellow to be always proud, the state of his finances would force him to be humble This state of humility is what Jesus was referring to when He talked about the poor in spirit in The Beatitudes.

To be poor in spirit means to be humble, it also means to be totally dependent on the Holy Spirit. Anyone who is poor in spirit even if he/she has read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, will still listen to sermons preached by other Pastors. Those who are poor in spirit don’t feel too big to take instructions from the Holy Spirit and Godly spiritual leaders. They always want more of God, they are never puffed up, no matter the height or feat they have attained spiritually. They keep growing because they know that anyone who stops growing will start dying.

The irony is that those that fall into this category may be poor in spirit but are very wealthy in God’s Kingdom, because they will never lack new revelations from the word of God and the exploits they do on earth will speak for them in eternity.

REFLECTION: Are you poor or wealthy in spirit?

HYMN: Sing hymn 3
