TOPIC: Familiarity With God?
MEMORISE: God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24
READ: John 4:23-24
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 70-72, Romans 4:1-25
MESSAGE:
According to the Oxford Learners Dictionary, familiarity is the state of being extremely friendly. It could also be an instance of familiar behaviour or inappropriate informality. Being familiar with someone means you have personal knowledge about them. A lot of Christians take God for granted due to the relationship they have with Him. It is a privilege to know God and have free access to Him. So, if you refuse to go to church or fellowship constantly because you feel you’ve read your Bible back to back and have more revelations than your pastor or leader, then, you’re becoming too familiar with God. If you take Christian meetings for granted by chatting, receiving calls, gisting with old friends, socializing with new ones et cetera while there, you have become too familiar with God. There is a saying that familiarity breeds contempt. From now on, stop the contemptuous attitude; don’t become carefree with spiritual matters, honour God and He will honour you too. 1 Samuel 2:30b says:
“for them that honour Me I will honour, and they that despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.”
PRAYER POINT:
Father, please have mercy on me if I have dishonoured You in any way.
HYMN: I AM THINE O LORD
- I am Thine, O Lord,
I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise
in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.
CHORUS
Draw me nearer,
nearer blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer,
nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.
- Consecrate me now to Thy
service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a
steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine. - Oh, the pure delight
of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer,
and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend
with friend! - There are depths of love that I
cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy
that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
