TOPIC: Worshipping Victory?
MEMORISE: Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:13
READ: 1 Kings 19:1-2
And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 119:49-176, 1 Corinthians 4:1-21
MESSAGE:
Elijah had just won a great victory over 450 prophets of Baal and in the process, turned Israel’s heart back to God. As he was about to rest, he heard that Jezebel had sworn to kill him, so, he took to his heels. I would like you to note that the devil usually strikes after a major victory; for this reason, children of God must never rest on their oars. The more victories you achieve, the more vigilant you should be.
Some years ago, I had the opportunity to speak at the valedictory service of one of our secondary schools. As the graduating students sang a popular song The Storm is Over, the Holy Spirit instructed me to tell them to calm down. Many of them thought they were now free from the monitoring and discipline of their parents and teachers; you could see the excitement in them. As a mother, I rebuked their folly and encouraged them to gird their loins to face the storms in their new higher institutions, churches and future marriages.
My dear, don’t overly celebrate any victory, rather, do it within limits in faith that God will sustain it and give you consistent victories throughout your lifetime.
KEY POINT:
Though you are fighting from victory because Jesus already won your battles, don’t turn your victory to a trap.
HYMN: I Am Thine O Lord
I am Thine, O Lord,
I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise
in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.
CHORUS
Draw me nearer,
nearer blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer,
nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.
Consecrate me now to Thy
service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a
steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.
Oh, the pure delight
of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer,
and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend
with friend!
There are depths of love that I
cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy
that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
