Topic: You Need A Role Model

MEMORISE: Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2

READ: 1 Samuel 22:1-2

1 David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him.

2 And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

Bible In One Year: Numbers 16-17; Mark 6:33-56

MESSAGE:

A role model is a coach who trains a follower on a certain aspect of life life generally. I remember when was a young boxer, I learnt some major Tactics from a man called Mohammed Alli. He usually targeted the face of his opponents and if the fellow managed to reach the final stage, Alli would give him a jab to knock him out. This experience has also helped me when fighting spiritual battles. I know that I must keep fighting till I knock the enemy (Satan) out.

You can’t go through life alone, else, you will become overwhelmed. You need someone who has gone through what you are presently experiencing and would be able to guide you. Having a role model will make it easier to get through difficult situations at this stage, choose a suitable career and make wise decisions. The experiences you will gather from your role model will affect your life positively or negatively. In your quest for role model therefore, you must be guided by the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the best role model anyone can have. Human beings are limited and can make errors; if you follow them rigidly, you may copy their errors but with Jesus, you can never go wrong.

KEY POINT:

Who are you modeling your life after?

HYMN 13: I’VE FOUND A FRIEND IN JESUS

I’ve found a friend in Jesus,
He’s everything to me.
He’s the fairest
of ten thousand to my soul;
The lily of the Valley,
in Him alone I see
All I need to cleanse
and make me fully whole.
In sorrow He’s my comfort,
in trouble He’s my stay,
He tells me every care
on Him to roll: (Hallelujah!)

Chorus:
He’s the Lily of the Valley,
the Bright and Morning Star,
He’s the Fairest of ten thousand
to my soul.

He all my griefs has taken,
and all my sorrows borne;
In temptation He’s my strong
and mighty tower;
I have all for Him forsaken,
and all my Idols torn,
From my heart, and now
He keeps me by His power.
Though all the world forsake me,
and Satan tempt me sore,
Through Jesus I shall safely
reach the goal, (Hallelujah!)

He’ll never, never leave me,
nor yet forsake me here,
While I live by faith,
and do His blessed will;
A wall of fire about me,
I’ve nothing now to fear;
With His manna,
He my hungry soul shall fill.
Then sweeping up to glory,
to see His blessed face,
Where rivers of delight
shall ever roll (Hallelujah!).
