Topic: Making Sleep An End?
Memorise: “As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.” – Proverbs 26:14
Read: Proverbs 6:9-11
9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
Bible In One Year: Jeremiah 14-16, 1 Timothy 5
MESSAGE:
It is so unfortunate that many young fellows are sleeping away their destinies these days. I can tell if you are a sluggard by the time you wake up every morning.
While sleep is meant to revive the hard working so that he can be refreshed for more work, to the sluggard sleep is an end. When last did you read your boos overnight? When last did did you pray in the middle of the night? Don’t let sleep control you, you should be in control of sleep. If you find that you cannot help but sleep when you ought to be awake, ten you should take that mattress out of your room; sometimes, you need to be hard on your body to put it under control. I know that I need to pray every night, and I have a prayer room in my house, but I know if I decide to pray here, I am lively to sleep off, so I always get on the road in the middle o the night to walk and pray.
If you are in the higher institutions and you are finding it difficult to meet up with early morning lectures, you are a sluggard. God does not assist the lazy, He assist those who are willing to work.
Key Point: Sometimes you need to be hard on your body to put it under control.
Hymn 16: Christian, seek not yet repose
- Christian, seek not yet repose
Hear thy gracious Savior say;
Thou art in the midst of foes:
Watch and pray. - Principalities and power
Mustering their unseen array
Wait for the unguarded hours:
Watch and pray - Gird the heavenly armor on,
Wear it ever night and day;
Ambushed lies the evil one:
Watch and pray. - Hear the victors who o’ercame,
Still they mark each warrior’s way;
All with one sweet voice exclaim,
Watch and pray. - Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
Him thou loves to obey;
Hide within thy heart His word:
Watch and pray. - Watch, as if on that alone
Hung the issue of the day;
Pray, that help may be sent down:
Watch and pray.
