Topic: Keeping A Vigil
Memorise: “At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.” – Psalms 119:62
Read: 1 Samuel 15:11
11 It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.
Bible In One Year: Job 26-28, Acts 11
MESSAGE:
I know that as teenagers, you will find it very hard to keep vigils. When you are spoken to about vigils, you become reluctant. But do you know that holding a vigil once in a while is necessary as a Christian? Vigils are held mostly for prayer or worship sessions that last all through the night.
When we hold a vigil, it becomes a matter of acting Christ-like. In Luke 6:12, Jesus Christ prayed all night. If Jesus could talk to His Father for an entire night, why can’t you do the same? You are a child of God just like Jesus is, so you need to Starr imbibing the act of holding vigils. I challenge you as a teenager to deepen your prayer life and engage more in vigils.
Prayer Point: God give me the grace not to deny myself from the benefits attached to vigils.
Hymn 16: Christian, seek not yet repose
1 Christian, seek not yet repose
Hear thy gracious Savior say;
Thou art in the midst of foes:
Watch and pray.
2 Principalities and power
Mustering their unseen array
Wait for the unguarded hours:
Watch and pray
3 Gird the heavenly armor on,
Wear it ever night and day;
Ambushed lies the evil one:
Watch and pray.
4 Hear the victors who o’ercame,
Still they mark each warrior’s way;
All with one sweet voice exclaim,
Watch and pray.
5 Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
Him thou loves to obey;
Hide within thy heart His word:
Watch and pray.
6 Watch, as if on that alone
Hung the issue of the day;
Pray, that help may be sent down:
Watch and pray.
