Teens Open Heaven 21st September Friday 2018 Daily Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye
Topic: Self-Denial
Memorise: “Then said Jesus unto His disciples, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” – Matthew 16:24
Read: Matthew 16:24-25 (KJV)
Bible In One Year: 2 Corinthians 12
MESSAGE:
When we talk about self-denial, we are referring to fasting and praying when others are sleeping; studying your books or Bible when others are watching interesting T.V programmes and keeping quiet while others are talking.
Self-denial also means knowing your worth, yet ignoring it for the purpose of God’s Kingdom. Jesus denied Himself by making Himself of no reputation. It is pride that will make you exalt yourself, but when you know that you are nothing, it would be difficult to be angry when you are insulted. If you want to follow Him, realise that you are nothing without Him.
Action Point: Ask God for the grace to practice self-denial every day.
Hymn 7: I am Thine O Lord
1. I am Thine 0 Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.
Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.
2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.
3. Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!
4. There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
