Topic: Power Of Hunger

Memorise: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6

Read: Matthew 20:20-23 (KJV)

20 Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.

21 And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.

22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

Bible In One Year: Esther 1-3, Acts 5:1-16

MESSAGE:

In Matthew 5:3, Jesus said the poor in Spirit are in the category of the blessed. The poor in spirit are those who are never satisfied with their spiritual state. They are always hungry for more of God; His love, the fruit of His Spirit and gifts of the Spirit. Their delight is in Christ. One major characteristic of the poor is that they have a large capacity to fill. They are insatiable for their quest for Heavenly things, and would not rest until they are filled.

Hunger plays a major role in the distribution of Heavenly blessings. God cannot fill you beyond your capacity or container. If you think you are okay the way you are, you will never move an inch beyond that point. If you do not hunger to know more about God, you will be limited to the little you already know and have of Him. Your hunger will determine your growth level and pace. Ask God to give you real hunger for eternal things.

Action Point: Ask for hunger pangs for the things of God.

Hymn 7
1. I am Thine 0 Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.

Chorus
Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

3. Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!

4. There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
