Teens Open Heavens 31 October 2018 Daily Devotional written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

Topic: Brokenness

Memorise: “I am feeble and sore broken; I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.” Psalm 38:8

Read: 1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV)

Bible In One Year: Jeremiah 29-30, Titus 1

MESSAGE:

In spiritual terms, to be broken is to subdue the flesh in order to be more profitable to the Kingdom of God. Why do you need to be broken? You need to be broken in order to put the flesh where it belongs; subdued. Until you get to the point of brokenness, your body will operate in the body – soul – spirit order of priority, which means that the body will be in control of the spirit instead of the other way round.

Another reason for brokenness is that it helps you to lose grounds for God to occupy. That is, it creates more room for God. The more broken you are, the greater the space the Spirit can fill up with you. Brokenness also helps us to be true ambassadors of Christ – making us to represent Him as we should. Are you broken? To what extent are you allowing the flesh? From today, ask God to break you, and fill you with His fullness.

Key Point: If God breaks you, He will mould you to fit into His mould, but if you are not broken, you will maintain your old mould.

Hymn 7:

1. I am Thine 0 Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.

Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

3. Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!

4. There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
