TOPIC: A Good Impression

MEMORISE: But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts – 1 Thessalonians 2:4

READ: 1 Thessalonians 2:4-8

  1. But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
  2. For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness:
  3. Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
  4. But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:
  5. So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Matthew 23:23-39, Exodus 37-38

MESSAGE:

Someone once said, “First impressions last long”. This is true in many cases because you may have only one chance in life to show someone your true nature. For instance, when a girl puts up bad behaviour in public and someone says, Don’t mind her, she is actually a lovely person if you really get to know her I always think, What else is there to know?

Mastering your emotions and attitude will save you from a bad reputation. You should not base your reactions on what someone did but on who you are. For example, when someone does something that infuriates me, I don’t burst out in anger because I have learnt how to control my emotions and submit them to Gods leading. What I do is to start singing worship songs in my mind until the negative emotions go away, after which I calmly examine the situation.

You will not always be present to explain the reason for some of your actions and reactions, hence, you have to submit your emotions to the Holy Spirit so that you can behave properly at all times as this will create a good and lasting impression about you wherever you go.

ACTION POINT:

Write three bad habits people have complained about regarding you and take practical steps to stop them.

HYMN 21: Let Others See Jesus In You

While passing through this
world of sin,
And others your life shall view,
Be clean and pure without, within,
Let others see Jesus in you.

CHORUS
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.

Your life’s a book before their eyes,
They’re reading it through and through;
Say, does it point them to the skies,
Do others see Jesus in you?

What joy ’twill be at set of sun,
In mansions beyond the blue,
To find some souls that you have won;
Let others see Jesus in you.

Then live for Christ both day and night,
Be faithful, be brave, and true,
And lead the lost to life and light;
Let others see Jesus in you.
