TOPIC: Unwholesome Obsession
MEMORISE: Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. – Romans 6:12
READ: Romans 6:12-14
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Micah 6-7, Revelation 12:1-17
MESSAGE:
Obsession is an unreasonably strong and continuous interest in something/someone which prevents you from thinking about anything else. It manifests in different forms. One thing some teenagers are obsessed with is food. Esau was so obsessed with food that when he was famished, he relinquished his birthright to his younger brother for a meal. The truth is, if he drank only water for two days, he wouldn’t die of hunger. When I was younger, a neighbour gave me a bowl of food in appreciation for always giving her son my textbooks of previous classes each time I moved into a higher class. Before then, my mother’s instruction had been that I keep any edible thing anyone gives to me till she returns.
So, I put the food by the kitchen corner and ran off to play with my friends. I totally forgot about the food. The following morning, the food had turned to charcoal, so, I told my mother how I got it. When the woman was confronted by my mother, she said she was jealous that I was doing well in school while her son wasn’t. If I’d had an obsession for food, I would have eaten that food and died.
ACTION POINT:
Receive the Grace to break away from any obsession today.
