Open Heaven For Teens Saturday 16 October 2021 Daily Devotional was written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye
TOPIC: Overtaking After Delay
MEMORISE: I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. Ecclesiastes 9:11
READ: 1 Samuel 2:5
They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 59-61 , 1 Thessalonians 4:1-18
MESSAGE:
When I was a coach, I took my team to participate in an athletics competition of secondary schools. I had one of the best on my team a girl. This young girl was as fast as a cheetah. It was time for the 100 metres race and she outran the other athletes. Just as she was about to reach the finish line, she fell and gradually crawled towards the finished line because she could no longer walk. The person running in second place overtook her and came first, while the third became second. According to the memory verse and illustration above, the winner of a race is not necessarily the fastest. The fact that somebody else went ahead of you does not mean the fellow will stay ahead. The truth is, walking diligently with the Lord guarantees your recovery and overtaking.
We have seen God change time and seasons to favour His faithful children. Don’t be discouraged that those you graduated with in high school are now in the university while you are still struggling to gain admission. Rejoice with them because God is working your delay out for His good. However, ensure you play your role; study and stay with God. He will visit you this year.
PRAYER POINT:
Father, please put an end to every form of delay for all members of this Church.
HYMNS: My Faith Looks Up To Thee
My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Saviour divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away;
O let me from this day
Be wholly Thine.
May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire;
As Thou hast died for me,
O may my love to Thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be,
A living fire.
While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.
When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold, sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll,
Blest Saviour, then in love,
Fear and distrust remove;
O bear me safe above,
A ransomed soul.
