TOPIC: The Gift Of Teaching

MEMORISE: A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. Proverbs 25:11

READ: Acts 8:27-31

And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

MESSAGE:

The Holy Spirit is the greatest teacher. He is also the giver of the gift of teaching. However, a teacher must study the word and then allow the Holy Spirit to teach him and expand it before teaching others. The sole purpose of a teacher of the word therefore is to know God and then make Him known to others. A teacher can easily understand and interpret scriptures and bring clarity where there is confusion. It is not difficult to know if you are one; if you become unsettled when people quote the word of God wrongly or out of context and you are able to give the proper explanation based on the help of the Holy Spirit, you are a teacher.

Another attribute of teachers is, they don’t give up on any one; they keep teaching with simplicity until a fellow knows Jesus. They love the truth and speak it in love. However, there is a pitfall they must avoid: pride. Teachers of the word have the tendency to become proud due to the knowledge of the word they have. So, if you are one, ensure you don’t become proud. Remember, God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

KEY POINT:

Teaching of the word without the Holy Spirit will not yield positive results.

HYMN: Let Others See Jesus In You

While passing through this world of sin,
And others your life shall view,
Be clean and pure without, within,
Let others see Jesus in you.

CHORUS
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story,
be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.

Your life’s a book before their eyes,
They’re reading it through and through;
Say, does it point them to the skies,
Do others see Jesus in you?

What joy ’twill be at set of sun,
In mansions beyond the blue,
To find some souls
that you have won;
Let others see Jesus in you.

Then live for Christ both
day and night,
Be faithful, be brave, and true,
And lead the lost to life and light;
Let others see Jesus in you.
