Open Heaven For Teens 20 May 2021 Daily Devotional was written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye
TOPIC: Check That Gluttony
MEMORISE: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. Proverbs 23:21
READ: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Chronicles 1-2, John 7:32-53
MESSAGE:
Gluttony is eating excessively. It shows that a fellow is being controlled by his belly. Gluttony is a sin and just like other sins, it has its consequences such as obesity, spiritual manipulation, cardiac arrest and other health challenges.
A glutton will find it difficult to fast because he or she cannot do without food, whereas, there are some miracles you cannot perform and a height you cannot attain in the realm of the Spirit unless you fast. Also, gluttony is a misuse of your body. When you eat too much and become obese, God will not be pleased with you. Bible scholars have discovered that it is ideal to have two meals in a day supporting this claim with 1 Kings 17:6 where God sent a raven to feed Elijah twice a day. Although, you might have to eat more than twice in a day, ensure that you eat in appropriate quantities. Don’t feed on junk, rather, eat fruits, vegetables and a balanced diet. Eat right and don’t be controlled by your appetite.
KEY POINT: Do you have control over your appetite or does your appetite controls you?
HYMN: All Things Bright And Beautiful
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colours,
He made their tiny wings.
The purple-headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset, and the morning
That brightens up the sky.
The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.
He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.
