Topic: Sin Shuts Doors

Memorise: “Anyone who hides his sins doesn’t succeed. But anyone who admits his sins and gives them up finds mercy.” – Proverbs 28:13

Bible Reading: Matthew 9:1-7 (NIRV)

1 Jesus stepped into a boat. He went over to the other side of the lake and came to his own town.

2 Some men brought to him a man who could not walk. He was lying on a mat. Jesus saw that they had faith. So he said to the man, “Don’t lose hope, son. Your sins are forgiven.”

3 Then some teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is saying a very evil thing!”

4 Jesus knew what they were thinking. So he said, “Why do you have evil thoughts in your hearts? 5 Is it easier to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven’? Or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?

6 I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.”
Then he spoke to the man who could not walk. “Get up,” he said. “Take your mat and go home.”

7 The man got up and went home.

Bible Reading In One Year: Jeremiah 20-22; 2 Timothy 1:1-18

MESSAGE:

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Proverbs 28:13 One major hindrance to open doors is sin. This is because sin has its pay. Romans 6:23 makes us to understand that every sinner must receive his pay. When it comes to sin, God does not have any special child. So it doesn’t matter whose son or daughter you are, the standard of God remains, no sinner would go unpunished unless he cries for mercy. Hence, the closer you are to God, the farther you should be from sin. Learn from David, he was so special to God that God called him the “Apple of My Eye”. However, the moment he sinned against God, he was punished. David was meant to build a temple for God, but God asked him not to, and that his son would build it for Him because his hands had been stained with blood. Solomon, his son built the temple and made sacrifices that drew Gods attention. God appeared to him in his sleep that night and blessed him. It was said that Solomon never fought any battle all through his reign as king.

If you want to get blessings from God, if you want to open some doors, you need to stay away from sin. Sin is also responsible for some sicknesses as seen in our Bible reading for today. So, if you also want to shut the door of sickness, poverty, lack, failure et cetera, you need to stay away from sin.

Key Point:
Repent of all your sins today and ask for God’s mercy.

Hymn: Let Us With A Gladsome Mind

Let us with a gladsome mind
Praise the Lord for He is kind:

Chorus:
For His mercies shall endure,
ever faithful, ever sure.

God, with all-commanding might,
Filled the new-made world with light:

All things living He doth feed;
His full hand supplies their need:

Let us then with gladsome mind
Praise the Lord, for He is kind:

He His chosen race did bless
In the wasteful wilderness.
