Open Heavens for Teens Friday 23 August 2019 Daily Devotional was written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye
Topic: Jesus Addict
Memorise: “And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” – 1 John.3.3
Read: Deuteronomy 4:4-9
4 But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day.
5 Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.
6 Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
7 For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?
8 And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?
9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;

MESSAGE:
It is totally cool to be a Jesus addict even if you are told otherwise by peers and relatives. When you are a Jesus addict, it means that you love Jesus with all your heart and you don’t ever want to do anything that would sever the bond you have with Him. A Jesus addict is always talking about Jesus or the word of God. In every conversation, you hear the person either referring to the Bible or just using the words in the Bible. I love having conversations with Jesus addicts. A Jesus addict is never ashamed to talk about Jesus anywhere and at any time. The fellow is also always looking forward to Bible Study meetings or fellowship times when they can learn more about Jesus.
Jesus wants us to be addicted to Him. Jesus said that if we are ashamed of Him before men, then He will also be ashamed of us before His Father in heaven (Matthew 10:33; Luke 9:26), what He was saying is “If you are not so addicted to me that you talk about me everywhere, then I will not talk about you to my Father”. Jesus addicts always get their prayers answered because Jesus is always speaking about them to His Father.
Action Point: Put your hand on your chest and say “I am proud to be a Jesus addict”. You can even make tee-shirts with the inscription “Proudly a Jesus Addict”.
Hymn 10: What a friend we have in Jesus
1 What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!
2 Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a Friend so faithful?
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
3 Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield You;
You wilt find a solace there.
